QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
I have been working as a deputy (ad-hoc) organist for many years and for many churches. My website lists some of them: www.rtc-organist.co.uk .  I have some excellent testimonials http://www.rtc-organist.co.uk/files/churches.html.

I am familiar with the liturgies and customs of Anglican (high and low), Roman Catholic and United Reformed congregations and have played for them. I am keen to play for, and learn about the music of, other denominations. I can accompany responsorial psalms, have played Evensong, can read and accompany Gregorian chant. I am very keen to fit in with the spirit of the liturgy of each congregation and with the liturgical seasons and occasions.

My aim is to play in such a way that the congregation should not notice that their resident organist is absent. To achieve this, I visit churches in which I am to deputise for the first time days or weeks in advance, to try the organ, and take detailed notes of liturgical details, verbal and visual clues (e.g. processions) for starting and ending hymns, acclamations, bridging music (improvisations). I want to fit into the service like a hand into a well-worn glove. I try to adjust to the congregation rather than force the congregation to adjust to me.

I am an excellent improviser, good at providing suitable voluntaries before and after the service, contemplative music during communion or censing (where required), &c, and able to start and stop exactly when required. I am a dedicated liturgical organist, very much at ease at the organ console.

I am NOT a concert organist. I am familiar with several foreign languages and could therefore play for congregations which use these languages: Latin, German, Spanish, French, Italian, and a smattering of some other languages. I am keen on getting more requests for funerals.
GEOGRAPHICAL AVAILABILITY
I have a base in London and one in Lancashire, and spend a few weeks at a time in either location.

In London, I travel by public transport (tube, buses and National Rail) and am prepared to go anywhere on the tube network, and sometimes beyond, provided it is possible to get there RELIABLY on a Sunday morning.

In Lancashire, I travel by car and play in churches within easy reach of Preston or Blackburn. In case of longer distances, I have to charge for extra time and petrol.
AVAILABILITY DURING THE WEEK
Any time, day and evening, Sundays and week days. I am often, but not always, booked for Sunday mornings long in advance. Therefore I am more likely to be free at short notice on Sunday p.m. and on week days.
