i The Ad: Director of Music
St. Augustine?s Catholic Church, High
Wycombe

The Church are seeking to engage a suitably qualified
freelance Organist and Choir Director from January 2018 (or as soon as
possible thereafter). The present incumbent is relocating.

He or she
will be expected to play the pipe organ (about 100 years old, 2 manuals
and pedals) for two Sunday morning Masses. There is a very large
congregation of between 200-250 people at each Mass. The volunteer,
20-strong SATB Parish Choir sings at the latter one. The Parish Choir
rehearse on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings.

Music plays an
integral part in the celebration of worship at St. Augustine?s. In
addition to two Sunday morning Masses, the Choir plays a significant
role in the Christmas and Easter liturgies, as well as at several other
special services throughout the year. Traditionally, the Choir have also
organised and presented a secular Summer Concert for the Congregation
and are very keen for this to continue under a new Director of
Music.

There are also playing opportunities at approximately 20
funerals and 3-4 weddings per year, attracting additional fees.

There is a generous holiday entitlement of six weeks over the
summer, in addition to a week directly after Christmas and Easter.

Knowledge of a broadly ecumenical liturgy would be an advantage, but
by no means essential. Prior experience as a choral conductor and
trainer is important. The ability to play the Organ to ARCO standard is
desirable but by no means essential, and we would also very much welcome
applications from individuals with strong credentials as a pianist.

The salary is dependent on the experience of the successful
applicant, and will be negotiated around RSCM Category A, for which the
maximum remuneration is currently ?7,000.

For further details and
expressions of interest, interested parties are warmly invited to
contact the Parish Priest on 01494 523 969,
email
hilljonathan67@gmail.com.

Should you decide to apply for the
position, a CV, together with a covering letter and details of at least
two professional referees, will be required.

The closing date for
applications is Friday, November 17th. Shortlisted candidates will be
invited to interview, and to take a part of a rehearsal with the Parish
Choir by mutual arrangement.

i The Ad: ORGANIST NEEDED IN SOUTH CAMBRIDGE

St Andrew?s, Cherry

Hinton (CofE) are looking for an accomplished organist to underpin the exciting expansion of musical provision in this glorious 13th-century Church. The church has a mission to bring fine music into this relatively deprived part of outer Cambridge.

We need an organist to

play 3 Sunday mornings/month and festivals. Our Sunday service, a traditional Eucharist with congregation sung responses, is currently at 10am. Our organist will need a high level of musicianship and a willingness to work with and encourage all of our church musicians, from beginners to professionals.  The team currently consists of:

1. The

vicar, who maintains a keen interest in music, has input into hymn selection, and will be starting up a toddler singing group in September.

2. A newly appointed Director of Music, who (as a

volunteer) has built up a robed choir over the past 8 months which sings for one Sunday morning service/month and festivals. The organist will not normally be required to accompany their practice (monthly on the 2nd Monday of month) but the ability to do so occasionally would be helpful.

3. Several other music teachers in the congregation who are working to build up links with local primary schools, with hopes of developing a children?s choir in due course. They provide instrumental music for Sunday services and special events.

4. The choir!

The

organ is a fine neo-Baroque instrument, built in 1985 by EJ Johnson and Son. Full details are available here:

http://www.npor.org.uk/NPORView.html?RI=D00753.

The previous

post-holder writes:?This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing church and musical community in Cambridge. Since the appointment of a new vicar in Autumn 2016, music at St Andrew?s has developed rapidly, with the addition of a robed choir and other youth and instrumental ensembles. The liturgy and sung worship are rooted in the traditional repertoire of Common Praise, but also incorporate more contemporary music, e.g. from the American churches or the evangelical tradition. The instrument is far better than that found in most parish churches, and particularly rewards the performance of Baroque repertoire. The congregation are particularly receptive of good improvisation, including in twentieth-century styles, and the use of organ music at appropriate points during the liturgy is encouraged by the vicar. I have taken a new job in London, and am sadto be leaving this wonderful church community- but it does offer an excellent opportunity for a flexible and motivated organist of any age.?

Deadline for application: Friday 29th

September

Interviews: Sunday 8th October

Salary commensurate with

RSCM rates for a Category B organist position (currently ?40 per service). There will be many opportunities for additional remuneration from weddings, funerals and private baptisms, though the appointee need not be available for these.

Appointment will be subject to

satisfactory DBS check. For further information please contact Rev?d Karin Voth Harman vicar@standrews-cherryhinton.org.uk or Lucy Bunce lucyharp@me.com, or to have an informal conversation with the previous post-holder, please contact Jack Butterworth.

i The Ad: An excellent opportunity for a Director of Music has arisen at the beautiful village church of St Mary The Virgin in Clifton Village, Nottingham. The church stands only a few miles from Junction 24 of the M1, is Grade 1 listed, is a popular location for weddings, with fabulously designed acoustics and boasting a gorgeous 1973 two manual and pedal board, 11 stop, tracker action Marcussen pipe organ (NPOR

N0887) and a grand piano, both of which are maintained to be in exceptional condition.

The church is looking for an enthusiastic Musical Director to drive music forward in the Parish to include the creation of a regular basic SATB choir and maybe a children?s choir.

They are looking to form secure links with music in the local schools and Trent University whose campus sits right next door to the village!

There is usually one service per week apart from festival weeks. The church is well known to be a local concert venue and the successful applicant will head up designing a program of musical events throughout the year to include assistance with the successful music festival and the coordination of visiting choirs.

The church is within the same

parish as Clifton?s Holy Trinity Church where a Father Willis organ sits waiting to be installed into the organ gallery and the successful applicant will be key to leading this project to a successful outcome.

Skills in modern worship music would be an additional benefit in order to support the musical worship style in this second church on occasion.

A Sub Organist is already in place to support the successful applicant with choir accompaniment and holidays, etc. If you are keen to forward your career as a Director of Music in a prominent village church that holds music centrally to its success and outreach program and you are reliable and passionate about both choral music and traditional worship with an eye on the modern then this may just be the role that you are looking for.
